A team of archaeologists working at the Mijiaya dig site in China just announced that they've unearthed a bunch of ancient beer brewing equipment, including Things like funnels, jugs and pots. The artifacts contain remnants of mashed grains and other ingredients still used to brew the sudsy drink today. Reconstructing the recipe from residue found inside the artifacts, researchers say the ancient culture "understood advanced brewing techniques very similar to modern methods."

But that's not the most surprising Thing they found. Turns out, the master brewers were also importers of fine beer-making ingredients like barley, which wasn't grown for food in China until 3,000 years later. They believe that the barley was imported specifically for brewing beer and might have been traded for other crops.

"Our data provides the earliest direct evidence of beer production in China, showing that an advanced beer brewing technique was established around 5,000 (years) ago," the archaeologists told the National Academy of Sciences.

So what would you do if you discovered a beer recipe from 5,000 years ago? Brew up some suds, of course! Or maybe that's just me. Because one Thing the researchers didn't answer was the burning question: was the beer any good?

See you next week,

Is Extrasensory Perception (ESP) really a Thing? And if it is, do you have it? Or are you "psi missing"?

In An Introduction to Parapsychology, researchers say that some people not only lack ESP, they have basically the opposite of it. This group of people scores below "simple chance" on card guessing tests. In fact, their scores fall so far below what researchers consider chance, they concluded that these "psi missing" folks might actually be trying to guess the wrong cards.

The most interesting Thing about all of this research? Dr. Douglas Dean of the Newark College of Engineering studied this effect in businessmen and found that those who scored "high psi" tend to make money while the "psi missing" tend to lose money on their ventures.

Of course that doesn't prove that successful people have ESP while the less successful don't. But they might be better at guessing games. And if there's one Thing I know about games: practice makes perfect.

I predict that I'll see you next week,

You know I love all Things poo. I've written extensively on the subject of scat and I even follow the adventures of Captain Mercedes, a Reddit user who's been tracking and analyzing his emissions for all the world to see. In case you missed it, you can read about the good captain here and here.

But this crappy story takes the...er...turd.

When inspectors found 'brown fingerprints' on a water bottle in the kitchen of the Yeahya Flavour of Asia carry-out restaurant in Swindon, England, chef Mahbub Chowdhury fully admitted to the 'cultural habit' of using his hand instead of paper to clean up after using the toilet.

He pleaded guilty to 10 food and hygiene violations and even admitted that the suspect bottle found in the kitchen contained the very water he used to clean his bum. But, his lawyer argued, the bottle was never lab-tested to find out what the brown spots were and he maintains they could have been "spices".

Mr. Chowdhury has yet to be sentenced for his fecal infractions, but you'll be relieved to know that he no longer runs the restaurant.

HBO's popular series Game of Thrones is back! Those of us who read the books and follow the show couldn't be happier. Or more nervous. We're all waiting to see if Jon Snow, killed at the end of season five, will stay dead, become a White Walker or be brought to back to life by the dreaded Red Woman (at considerable cost, no doubt).

Meanwhile, Daenerys Targaryen and one of her dragons have disappeared into unknown country. Will they survive? And what will become of the two dragons chained in the dungeons? Surely, Mereen will soon run out of slave owners to feed to the beasts.

And who will survive into season seven? Some of biggest stars have cut deals for the next season of the epic fantasy series. Spoiler alert: don't read any further if you don't want to know if your favorite or most hated characters will or won't make it to season seven.
  • Peter Dinklage, who is perfectly diabolical as the good guy in bad guy clothing, Tyrion Lannister has a deal for the 7th season.
  • So does Maisie Williams, who plays the rebellious tomboy turned ruthless killer, Arya Stark.
  • But Dean-Charles Chapman, who plays poor King Tommen, has yet to make a deal (that we know of.) Given that his brother King Joffrey and sister Myrcella died of poisoning and he's the last of his evil mother's children...well, let's just say Things don't look good for the boy king.
Emilia Clarke who plays Daenerys Targaryen, will make it to season seven, but rumor has it that the Mother of Dragons is slated for GoT's bloodiest death ever. And in the Seven Kingdoms, that's really saying something.
