A team of archaeologists working at the Mijiaya dig site in China just announced that they've unearthed a bunch of ancient beer brewing equipment, including Things like funnels, jugs and pots. The artifacts contain remnants of mashed grains and other ingredients still used to brew the sudsy drink today. Reconstructing the recipe from residue found inside the artifacts, researchers say the ancient culture "understood advanced brewing techniques very similar to modern methods."

But that's not the most surprising Thing they found. Turns out, the master brewers were also importers of fine beer-making ingredients like barley, which wasn't grown for food in China until 3,000 years later. They believe that the barley was imported specifically for brewing beer and might have been traded for other crops.

"Our data provides the earliest direct evidence of beer production in China, showing that an advanced beer brewing technique was established around 5,000 (years) ago," the archaeologists told the National Academy of Sciences.

So what would you do if you discovered a beer recipe from 5,000 years ago? Brew up some suds, of course! Or maybe that's just me. Because one Thing the researchers didn't answer was the burning question: was the beer any good?

See you next week,
Bobby
