I’ve really been working hard to make time to exercise this year. No New Year’s Resolution. I’m not trying to lose weight (well, maybe a little.) My doctor didn’t even tell me to do it. I just want to get in shape.

A different shape, that is.

But it’s hard to find time to work out, isn’t it? It’s the Thing people say the most, “I don’t have the time.” That’s understandable. We all work, we all have chores at home, Things we want to do with our friends.

But I’ve learned there are a few Things you can do:

  • Time Management: Organize your schedule around your workout. Want to get in a run or 30 minutes at the gym? Put it on your calendar and don’t cancel your appointment with yourself and your health!
  • Seize Opportunities: Take stairs instead of elevators. Choose parking spots far from entrances and walk those extra steps. Walk or bike to work if you can.
  • Work Out at Home: No time for the gym? Grab some hand weights, leg weights and squeeze in some quick reps before or after work. Better yet, get some DVDs and a few pieces of light gear and you’ll save time and gas by skipping the drive to and from the gym.

Your workout doesn’t need to be an hour long to get the health benefits from regular exercise. 20 minutes a day can make a huge difference in your health and weight. And if you increase intensity over time, you’ll burn more calories.

So, get out and work up a sweat. I’ll see you next week,
